Let's face it, no matter how much you leave yourself to do over the winter months, no matter how much your budget may appreciate the opportunity to rebound, after a couple months of that "the Itch" returns despite your best efforts. You may find yourself practicing your starts at every red light, or getting on the freeway just a bit quicker than you ought to, or perhaps racing that car through the corner before the two lanes merge. When I catch myself doing this regularly - and being disappointed when it ends so quickly - I know the "hankering" is getting rather powerful.
In the meantime, however, I'm trying to keep my sanity by preparing for the 2015 season. Getting the bike prepared, purchasing those items I need, getting them installed, saving up some money, studying tracks, tips, and other training, and finding sponsors. All of that is at least keeping me pretty busy!
The bike is going through it's usual round of yearly work, including new chain and sprockets, valves, fluids - all that good stuff. A few upgrades as well, the big one being a new-to-me Ohlin's rear shock. That ought to be a huge help/confidence booster in the couple areas where I'm still prone to holding back, since the stock shock was not helping me in those areas.
In addition to getting the bike ready, I'm ever so slowly working on getting myself ready as well. Eating right, counting calories and getting into a gym with a workout plan are at the top of my list. Food is one that I'm managing no matter what - I eat anyways, so that's an easy one. Working out and fitting that into my schedule is a bit more difficult, so I'm trying to find some effective ways to make that happen consistently.
There's been a fair bit of time spent on finding sponsors and trying to come up with ways to effectively promote the sponsors I do find. Let's face it, I'm not the fastest person out there, but I DO have a level of business knowledge and can promote my sponsors in many ways both on and off track. They're all companies who I would back regardless, now I just want to be sure they are getting the attention and priority they deserve!
It's sure to be a crazy busy "down time" but even so I can hardly wait for the coming season!
